Victura: The Kennedys,

a sailboat, and the Sea

by James Graham

2014

ForeEdge Trade Books

Jim had what I considered a brilliant idea: a history of the Kennedy family through the lens of sailing, the one sport they could excel at as outsiders in Wasp-y Hyannis. Jim did an amazing job of research that included spending time sailing with the present generation of Kennedys. We worked together to tease out and situate many telling and poignant stories, including the connection between sailing and the space program, and how JFK credited his experience sailing his boat Victura with helping him survive the sinking of his PT boat in the Pacific war. Even people who don’t necessarily like the Kennedys liked this book
