People are naturally curious. Ask any four-year old who's crazy about dinosaurs, or rocks, or bugs. Curiosity about the natural world is a hallmark of humanity, and the scientific method developed to codify that curiosity is the cornerstone of the modern rational mind. To be honest, I don't really trust anyone who doesn't, from time to time, pick up a book about Science.
